Here I am
For those of you who haven't heard, life has been pretty crazy lately. Yes, I finally graduated college. Better late than never, right? And now it's even official, because I finally got my diploma in the mail. But unfortunatley, the job hunt hasn't been going so well. The economy sucks, and no one is hiring for entry level positions. Basically, everything I see in my field wants 5-7 years experience, if not more. I had something a couple of weeks ago that seemed promising. I had an interview, a writing assessment, a follow up interview, and a powerpoint assessment. But it's been almost two weeks now since the first interview, and I haven't heard from them for probably 4-5 days now. The other big thing. For those who don't know, my girlfriend was at work a couple of months ago, and had a seizure; the first of her life. Long story short, it was discovered that she has a couple of brain tumors. One is really tiny, but the other one was sorta big (causing the seizures) and eventually began growing. She had a craniotomy (yes, brain surgery) to have it removed. Well, a biopsy of the tumor that was resected turned out to be stage two brain cancer. So yea. Now we are talking to different specialists to get recommendations on treatment. Don't get me wrong, it's not like I never thought I'd have to deal with something like this. I just didn't think it's be for another 30 years or more. So long story short, it's been a crazy and rough past couple of months. If you don't hear much from me, don't take it personally, I just have a lot on my plate right now. I have a rapidly dwindling savings account, no job, and a horrible economy, particularly for people seeking entry level positions. Also, obviously, time spent going to doctor appointments, caring for a g/f who has had brain surgery, etc. also takes up time. But hey, the year is almost over, and 2009 would seem to have nowhere to go but up. Current Mood: tiredCurrent Music: overkill - men at work | | Friday, May 30th, 2008 | | 1:24 am |

damn...
to be honest, i'm not mad arnold won. he wasn't my first choice, but he's better than the crap the democrats threw out. i wrote in steve westley... who some of you may know better for his work at eBay than in politics, but that's ok. boo hoo
and this is, in a nutshell, is my main problem with republicans: while republicans control congress: business as usual, do what we say and like it as soon as democrats win control of congress: time to put an end to partisan politics and start doing what's best for the country well guys, i guess this is what happens when you put yourself on a moral high horse, and then forget to check your own backyard. i mean c'mon, you can't even push a black candidate in maryland to victory?? you can't hold onto missouri?!??! or montana?!? or virginia?!?! or rummy??? one week to go
so, this past weekend was spent in yosemite spreading some ashes. grandma is finally with gramps again, and i have to say, they have a hell of a view... upper and lower yosemite falls:
the view across from el capitan:

and finally, the rockslide that's been causing a detour:

so yea, now it's down to my last week of summer vacation. back to school next tuesday. yes, we get monday off. no, i don't want to go back. yes, i'll suck it up and go. finally did some gardening in my quaint alloted area by my patio. if anything actually grows, i'll post some pictures. hey, once when i was a kid, i took a stick from a willow tree in front of someone's house and speared it into the backyard, and it ended up growing in to a tree. maybe i have the magical green touch. stranger things have happened...

biggest little what what?
so this is where i was all weekend: yes, i had a good time. no, i didn't win big. but oh well. my pop was attending a reunion there for his army company from vietnam. the 170th assault helicopter company, if you were curious for some reason. so yea, basically a free 4 day weekend at circus circus. well, free room and food at least, and that's not too shabby. all i had to do was a little chauffeuring and watching out for my dad, with his MD and all. but the place is pretty handicapped accessible, so after we located all the elevators, he was able to get around pretty well on his own. going to a wedding this coming saturday. i need a haircut. i'm trying to get karli to do it, but it seems like she's a bit busy this week. hopefully friday afternoon. so hard finding someone to cut your hair these days anymore. someone reliable that is. once at supercuts was enough for me to rule that out. better to wait for someone to do it right than to get right in to get your hair butchered. on another note, my book for german costs $206.75, because it comes with some crappy audio CDs and a study guide of some sort. and they wonder why people say textbook costs have gotten out of control... lazy days
well, looks like today is going to be the 11th day in a row of 100 degree or higher temperature. it's mostly been quite a bit higher. lots of records being broken and what not. finally on summer break, so i did something fun this afternoon, scrubbed the shit out of my apartment! ok, not so fun, but it needed to be done. everything looks so fresh and so clean... even if it still smells a little bleachy. so yea, i'm on break for i think 5-6 more weeks. fall semester doesn't start until sept. 4th. so i've got lots of time to do things, just don't have lots of money to do it with, which stinks. my pops is going to reno in a couple weeks for an army reunion, and i'm gonna go along to help take care of him and what not. should be interesting. if nothing else, it should be a free trip to reno, and you can't beat that. well, you probably could, but still... so yea, i haven't updated in quite a while, mainly because summer school kept me quite busy. lots of reading, and i also got my "writing intensive" class taken care of. i managed to pull A's in both classes. i must have just squeaked by in the ethnic studies class. ok, well that's really about all i have to say right now. yes, i saw pirates of the caribbean 2. yes, i liked it. yes, it seemed a little long. yes, there were things i thought could have been better. yes, i will buy it when it comes out on DVD. and no, i didn't see superman. but yes, i saw "an inconvenient truth". a little too much al gore, but a very good movie nonetheless. this love gushes from my heart, like the water from a spout...
so yea, summer school. first time in my life. i wish i could say i'm lovin' it... and to be honest, i'm sure it could be worse. but yea. the comms 100A is going pretty well. so far a lot of it is pretty much just review of stuff from my Interpersonal Comms class from last semester. The ethnic studies class, well... just not so good. Not only am I rather uninterested in the subject matter, but there's a pant-load of reading, and since it's a "writing intensive class", that means lots of papers. i pretty much have at least one paper a week, as well as about 200-300 pages to read every week. true, if i was still at MCI, i'd just be busting my hump, commuting, and without a nice 6 week summer break to look forward to. besides, it'll be nice to get these classes out of the way. and yes, i'm still hoping the Czechs can pull something good off vs. Italy. Hell, if the US can tie Italy, and the Czechs beat the US... well, you can do the math. or if you're in Manteca, you can do the meth... and oh yea, Sandwich Mafia "reunion show" (or as I call it, the Beating a Dead Horse Tour) is a couple weeks away now. For not having played together in 4-5 years, the practices have gone remarkably well. If you're a bored ass schmuck on June 29th, you should head to Stocktown. I vow that it will either go really well, or really bad. For me and the Mafia, mediocrity is not an option! save me from myself
you know what, anyone who doesn't like Sponge, i think you can pretty much kiss my ass. I picked up Rotting Pinata off of eBay for 1 goddamn penny. plus three dollars shipping, but still, $3.01 total = not a bad bargain. and i have to say, i think this is one of the best albums i've bought in a while. granted, i haven't bought a whole lot of CDs lately with my no job having ass. but still. and yes, i'll admit, i suppose the album is a little dated. but the thing is, being dated doesn't automatically make something bad (I give you Black Sabbath - Paranoid, Van Halen - 1984, Motorhead - Ace Of Spades, Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak, etc). and as far as a mid-90's pseudo-alternative rock album goes, i think this thing is pretty damned top notch. on a sadder, somewhat less angry note, i start summer school tomorrow. two classes. monday and wednesday i pretty much have class from like 12:30 until 9pm, with a little break in between. and tuesday night just from 6:30 to 9pm. so yea, my short lived 2 week break has come to an end. it's hard to complain a lot. 2 weeks is what i would get if i was still working. and i wouldn't have the nice 6 week break that awaits me after the 6 weeks of summer school. sure, having money would be nice... some lame ass couple was up until 4am last night playing the "if i yell louder, then i'm right" game across the apartment complex a little ways from my place, so now i'm sleepy. grow up people, you're not 6 years old. better living through chemistry
well i finally went to the doctor about a week and a half ago and got some antibiotics, and my tonsilitis has cleared up and i've been in a much more pleasant mood. finals were last week. so far i have 4 out of 5 classes with grades posted, and they're all aces so far. my parents are going to seattle, so i'm going to be in stockton house sitting from thursday (tomorrow) until the following wednesday. i'll probably come back to sacramento once or twice during that time, but mostly i'll be in stockton, so if you're in the stockton area and wanna hang, let me know! if i want to hang out with you, you probably have my cel. number, so use it. on another note, are you one of those motherfuckers that says "supposably" when you should be saying "supposedly"? get with the program. don't use "supposably" at the wrong time. you got another thing coming
wow, so the last time i updated was st. patty's day. what can i say, i'm a lazy bastard. either that, or i've been busy with school work. alas, i'm finally pretty on top of things. if i'm not mistaken, i'm all caught up with my papers now, as in... no more new papers the rest of the semester. which granted, is only two more weeks until finals, but it's still a nice feeling. i do have some reading to do, but not too much. finally maybe a chance to enjoy a weekend without worrying about school work! well, i do have a speech next week i need to prepare some notecards for, but that's not too intense. believe it or else, i'm actually pretty decent when it comes to delivering a speech. way back in my community college days pt. I, i was voted best speaker in my speech class. so there ya go. i got both of the summer school classes i want/need as well, so that's good. and they're both in the first half of summer, so i'll have some time off. time off to help my sister and my brother-in-law move to michigan. crazy shit, i can't believe they're going. but he got a good job teaching at a college out there, and my sister gets free tuition as part of the deal, so she can start working on a master's degree. jesus. i think i'm behind. but i'm having luck finding the star wars toys i've been looking for, so there ya go. yes, still collecting toys. if that bothers you, then you probably never were my friend in the first place. i'm gonna put a few things up on eBay this weekend. i've decided since i have that hi-def tv, i should invest $90 in a new DVD player. one of those "upconverting" models, now that they're down to a reasonable price. and my friend levi, who is pretty knowledgable on such things, said the HD DVD (the next step up, for $1000+) really isn't all that noticable of a difference. so there ya have it. i guess that's enough blabbing for now. oh, i'm probably going to be doing some house sitting for my parents in the end of May, so if anyone cares (i.e. wants to get together) i'll probably be in stockton a bit at the end of May. wearing of the green
so, happy st. patrick's day everyone. especially aran, since i think you're probably about the most irish motherfucker who will actually read this. yes, it's been quite a while since i've updated. i've been on spring break all this week. now it's almost over. i have two midterms next week, as well as a speech in my argumentation class. i swear, they sort of seem to miss the point of "spring break" when you have a bunch of assignments to work on. i'm in stockton right now at my parents house. they're getting the floors re-done, and they need someone to lug around furniture, so that's where i come in. back to sacramento tonight for some st. patty's day good fun. $2.5 million for 30 seconds??
so yea, i take forever to update. oh well. i still don't know how to post so you have to click a link to see the pictures, so no apartment pictures yet. someone help me, and then pictures will be posted. overall things in sacramento seem to be going pretty well so far. all of my classes seem to have a lot of reading, especially the humanities classes. but on the plus side of things, i think i only have 2 papers to do the whole semester, and i think maybe 6-8 speeches between two classes. i did quite well in my speech 1A class at junior college, so i'm not too worried about the speeches. so i've been in sacramento about a month now. it still doesn't really feel like home. i mean, the apartment feels like home, but sacramento overall doesn't. i'm in stockton right now (my pops birthday), and i went shopping earlier. it still feels like home here. i guess when you spend your first 28 years in a city, it's always gonna feel like home. especially when that city never changes. seems like no matter how long i'm gone, whether i take a weekend trip to tahoe, two weeks in New York, or a 6-8 week tour, whenever you come back to stockton, it's almost exactly the same as when you left. i should get back to reading the Odyssey. not the most exciting book i've ever read. too many hard to pronounce greek names, too much "____ son of ____" and so on. when you have to stumble over every other name in the book, it makes it very tough to read. boo hoo hoo. blah blah blah
as usual, it's been a while. but this time i have an excuse. no phone or internet service until the 27th. just over a week to go! i'm pretty much settled in to my place in sacramento. anyone wants to visit, i got a couch that folds out. good times! i start school on monday. my books so far were over $300, and i still need them for one more class. once i get my DSL set up, i'll post some pictures of my apartment if anyone wants to see. i need some help though. someone tell me how i can set up my entry so you have to click on the link to see the entire entry, please. that way i don't have to waste people's load time who don't want to see the pictures. i'm tired. don't believe me? look at my "mood" Current Mood: tiredCurrent Music: kyuss - "one inch man" | | Thursday, January 5th, 2006 | | 3:33 pm |
why??
is it just me, or does it seem rediculous that it will apparently take the phone company 3 weeks to turn on phone service to my apartment? i mean seriously, it can't be THAT hard. doesn't some guy just pretty much come out and flip a switch? oh, and three weeks also before my DSL will be turned on. looks like i won't be on line much for a while.
